![]() ![]() There was even a riverfront skatepark! When Andy and I have some time to get away for a weekend, this would be a perfect quick excursion. I loved the old warehouses and mills that are being converted into shops, offices and apartments. I also visited downtown Lynchburg, which is a cool little place that is undergoing a revitalization. There were lots of birds, some camping on private land off of the trail and I even spotted an old Airstream down by the river. Walking across the bridge to the island was like stepping back in time and the trail was heavily traveled even on a weekday afternoon. The trail was an old railroad bed that is now paved and connected to a small island along the James River, Percivals Island, that you could also walk on. One afternoon, I ventured to Lynchburg to try their Riverwalk Walking Trail, which was another colorful treat. The numerous hills made it more of a workout and a much needed change from my flat coastal walks! Andy and I had just started rucking and I made sure to carry my weight on my walks. I worked most of the days and took my late afternoons walking the campground, which had a beautiful lake and wooded walking trails. It was janky job but it worked for the week (please don’t joke me – I’m just happy I got LJ backed up in there)! Img 8 I spent the longest time getting it level and broke a few of my leveling blocks. I chose one of the first ones near a farm field with lots of trees bordering the horse fence. I always say that I learn something each time I camp and this time I learned to drive the entire campground before I chose my site. Did you know there is a town called Virgilina that is on the border of the two states (but really on the Virginia side)? The drive was so nice mostly through country towns in North Carolina and Virginia and the campground was well-kept. I traveled for a week stay to Lynchburg, Virginia and camped at Thousand Trails in nearby Gladys, and got my soul fed with lots of peace, tranquility and colors! Img 8 I wanted to see colors since where I live we only get to see the blue green hues of the ocean and I long for some diversity in seeing orange and reds. Hiking, fishing, swimming in summertime, bring your kayaks, bikes, ebikes and enjoy nature.Fall is my favorite time of the year because I love walking outside everyday, but when it’s cool and the colors around you are amazing, the daily walks are the best. But if you are about quality time with your family and nature ect check this place out. But if you are resort campers I would say this is not for you. I know you can say the same about my review but you never know till you check it out for yourself. My family loves it here for the first time here and I would say don't rely 100 percent on reviews. I would give 5 stars if roads were better. Even get out and stretch your legs and walk around first to find the best spot for your needs. Just know till the road issues are dealt with take it very slowly going to your site. Pet friendly and lots of space for your fur babies. Not far from great places to hike, eat and enjoy. But this is an amazing piece of land and far off the road, but so close to the town and other historical areas. Of course you wouldn't want your guest to have RV repairs or damage to vehicles. Get the roads safer for bigger rigs and guests would be a step in the right direction. Having a pool is wonderful in the summer time, but this is a beautiful campground and so far the staff we have had interactions with have been helpful and pleasant. This is camping in nature and not a resort. If you want a resort then you need to go to a resort. Yes, TLC is needed in play areas (putt put, basketball, etc.) This in my opinion is a wonderful place to spend quality time with your family and get back to nature what camping was all about in the beginning. Yes they need to fix many sites that are down due to electricity but kinda nice being we have more space between campers. ![]() The bathrooms and buildings even though outdated are cleaned. Ruts in the road yes and I believe should be the first priority to fix (that is the biggest struggle here because of how the rain and water flows) and I hope they do fix the roads, but just take it slow. TLC to buildings sure some repairs and slap paint and update the style. The bad reviews on this campground I feel are misleading and I am glad I didn't listen to them.
